Overview

Kanji Sushi & Bar, situated conveniently on Perry Hall Boulevard in Nottingham, MD, offers a refined take on sushi dining that balances freshness with variety. As a sushi restaurant, it stands out by focusing on made-to-order dishes rather than a traditional buffet setup, which ensures every plate arrives vibrant and meticulously crafted.

The restaurant’s strength lies in its sushi and sashimi offerings. Diners frequently praise the quality of the fish, noting the freshness and subtle sweetness that signal top-tier ingredients. The sashimi, in particular, receives high marks for its pristine preparation and texture—an essential benchmark for any sushi lover. The sushi rolls come in generous portions and showcase a range of creative combinations alongside classics like spicy tuna and avocado rolls. Specialty rolls highlight bold flavors paired with house-made sauces such as mango, eel, and yuzu, adding depth without overwhelming the palate.

Kanji Sushi & Bar presents a diverse menu beyond sushi, including warm hibachi-style entrées and a small hot food bar, featuring items such as crab legs and calamari. This breadth caters well to groups with varied tastes or families seeking both raw and cooked options. The “all you can eat” format invites exploration but remains sophisticated, with dishes delivered promptly from the kitchen rather than a buffet line—preserving freshness and presentation.

The interior ambiance is practical, leaning toward cozy, though some diners have noted lighting inconsistencies. Still, the focus here remains on the food experience rather than décor. The space suits casual gatherings, including families and groups of friends who can share and sample multiple offerings. Service is attentive but occasionally uneven, which may reflect the steady pace of food delivery and order customization.

Overall, Kanji Sushi & Bar caters to sushi enthusiasts who value quality fish and thoughtful preparation in a relaxed, approachable setting. Whether you’re craving pristine sashimi slices, inventive sushi rolls, or a mix of hot and cold dishes, this restaurant thoughtfully blends tradition with modern flair just outside the heart of Baltimore’s culinary scene.

The quality of the sashimi was excellent. Everything was fresh with a mild sweetness. I eat sushi often, and I can confidently say their fish is top tier. The sushi rolls were good; some stood out more than others. They’re quite large, so if you want to try a variety, it’s best to come with a few friends. The salmon yuzu was delicious, though I wish it could be made without cucumber!! Some areas of the restaurant could use better lighting. We were initially seated in a dim corner but were able to move to a brighter table upon request. Sashimi: 10/10 Sushi: 8/10 Appetizers: 9/10 Service: 7/10

We just ate at Kanji Sushi in White Marsh, and it was excellent! It’s technically an all-you-can-eat restaurant, but don’t expect a buffet—there’s no buffet line here. Instead, everything is made to order and served fresh right from the kitchen. You simply order off the menu, and the food comes out beautifully prepared and delicious every time. We tried several specialty rolls and loved every one of them. Even the basic spicy tuna roll was outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The menu also includes hibachi teriyaki rice, noodle dishes, and other hot entrées if you want to mix things up. At about $30 per person (or $35 if you want sashimi), it’s a great deal considering the quality and freshness of the food. Honestly, the rolls and specialty sushi alone were more than enough for us. Pro tip: Don’t waste time looking for a buffet when you arrive—everything is ordered right from your table, and that’s part of what makes it so good. Every dish arrives fresh, not sitting under a heat lamp. My only regret? That my stomach wasn’t bigger—I wanted to try even more rolls! We’ll definitely be back.

I have been here twice now and the experience has been excellent both times. There is a small hot buffet with fairly decent food. Appetizers are nice, especially the fish appetizers. There is a decent variety of sushi, many of which are more interesting combinations. I think the extra $5 for sashimi is well worth it, as you can then try out many fish on their own. Food comes out fairly fast as well.

We really enjoyed their all you can eat. They had a crab boil, calamari, all of the rolls, including their special rolls available for the all you can eat. Rolls came out quickly and were prepared with care. The crab boil was consistently refreshed and seasoned perfectly! The kids said it was their favorite restaurant. The also have many different dipping sauces, deserts, and a plethora of ice cream.

I stumbled upon this place while googling a place to fulfill my son's sushi craving for his birthday! For an all you can eat sushi buffet this place was amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed everything that we ordered and was left satisfied with full bellies. Seafood was all so fresh. All items on the menu are made to order. There is a self serve section as well. They have ice cream. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. The wait staff were so friendly. We'll be returning again and I highly recommend. What a great addition to Whitemarsh mall. I hope this establishment stays for the long haul!!

So excited that an ayce sushi spot opened so close to me! Kanji located inside the white marsh mall where Green turtle used to be- and maybe even Burger King (back in the 90’s) offers a variety of sushi, small plates and a hot bar. The best part about their offering is that they also offer a seafood boil at their hot bar and I think I enjoyed that the most over the sushi. The boil had that buttery Cajun taste that you would get at a traditional seafood boil. The sushi was also amazing! Everything is made to order and the fish to rice ratio is unreal. You really can’t beat the price ! Our server was also amazing! He was prompt and very attentive. The service here overall was quick and I would highly recommend!
